When pulling data from Jira to Tableau with the help of our connector, it is stored in an extract. You can surely refresh the entire extract (a full refresh). However, setting up an incremental refresh allows fetching only the new information for the extract (delta), which can greatly reduce the overall time of export/refresh.

For now, it is possible to configure incremental refresh functionality for the Issues, Issue Worklogs, Projects, and Histories tables. Keep in mind that this feature is supported only for WDC (web data connector).

An incremental refresh will function according to the following algorithm:

  • The Issues table > create a new issue > can be refreshed incrementally;

  • The Issue Worklogs table > create a new worklog > can be refreshed incrementally;

  • The Projects table > create a new project > can be refreshed incrementally;

  • The Histories table > by date of adding Histories > can be refreshed incrementally.

  • In case you edit the existing issue, worklog, or project data, the incremental refresh won't be applied.

  • The functionality may not work for all the tables (Issues, Issue Worklogs, Projects, Histories) within a single data source at once. Only for one of them.

  1. Export data to Tableau Desktop.

  2. Go to the created workbook > Data > select your data source > Extract > Refresh (Incremental):

  3. Review the history of refreshes by selecting History…:

Please note that refreshing WDC sources incrementally may not function correctly in the latest versions of Tableau Desktop.
