Your Jira Cloud administrator should grant you Administer Jira permissions to create, edit, view, and export connectors. Users with Administer Jira permissions always have access to app configurations.

Microsoft Power BI

1. Create Access Token

An access token is a security credential used in web applications to authorize and authenticate a user or application’s access to specific resources or data.

We will use an access token as a password for Microsoft Power BI to securely transfer data.

You can create your token by accessing Power BI Connector for Jira inside your Jira Cloud instance.

An access token functions like a password, so each user is required to create it individually. Jira Administrator cannot create access tokens for other users for security reasons.

2. Create Data Source

Now you need to create a data source for data you want to export from your Jira Cloud to your Microsoft Power BI. You can do it by accessing the Data Source page inside the Power BI Connector for Jira.

You have to name your data source, adjust sharing settings, and filter the tables you’d like to be in your data source.

3. Export Data into Microsoft Power BI

After creating an access token and creating a data source, you can easily export your data into Microsoft Power BI. Being on the Data Source page, select Copy URL. Launch your Microsoft Power BI, authorize, connect, and start working with your data.
