To export data from Jira to Microsoft Power BI in a secure way, you will need to create an Access Token.

Here are the steps to create your Access Token:

  1. Open the Power BI Connector for Jira app and navigate to the Tokens section.

  2. Make sure you’re at the Access Token tab.

  3. Click on the Create new token button.

An access token functions like a password, so each user is required to create it individually. Jira Administrator cannot create access tokens for other users for security reasons.

  1. Being signed in to your Jira Cloud instance, select Apps, and then select Looker Studio Connector for Jira.

  1. On the left-hand menu, select Access Tokens, and then select Create token.

  1. In the Label* field, enter a label.

  2. In the Expiry date (UTC) field, pick the required date, and then select Create.

Select a label that is short, memorable, and easy for you to remember.

5. Click the Create button to generate the Access Token.

6. Copy the Access Token that is generated. Please note that you won't be able to see the Access Token again once you leave this page.

7. You can create up to 25 Access Tokens and revoke those you don’t need anymore.

8. Use this Access Token

In our case, it is Looker Studio Connector.

  1. Select Copy.

Note

Before closing the window, make sure you copy your access token.

You won’t be able to see this token again.

Microsoft Power BI

Here you can create up to 25 access tokens.

You can also revoke your tokens. Revoking a token makes it invalid and removes it from the list.

Access Token Expiration Date

  • The tokens created before a new feature implementation don’t have a creation date and expiration date, therefore they are considered non-expiring.

  • All new tokens have a creation date and might have an expiration date (this is optional).
